The Next Crop

The West Adelaide works hard to develop talented footballers in all of its allocated zones. One region the West Adelaide Football Club has a rich history is the Riverland.

Players such as Fielke, Schammer, Modra, Riccuitto, Lindner, Fisher and Kerley along with current league players Schiller, Fielke, Agostino, Bates, Karpany and Middleton. Are players from the Riverland who have made West Adelaide their home and played SANFL league Football or AFL.

In 2011 our league side was predominately made up of players who we had recruited from interstate.

By 2015 our premiership year 69% of our league side were players developed within our recruiting zone.

After our premiership a number of our players were drafted which meant new players to the club and in 2016 West Adelaide had 66% of the league side from South Australia, 63% were from our zones and 32% of our side were from the country zones.

Our 2017 league side numbers also show the majority of our playing group coming from within our zone.

Each year the football department visit each regional zone to help promote Football and west Adelaide. In May Jason and Andrew visited in the Mallee and our past split round in June they travelled to the Riverland. In the past 7 years we have conducted numerous school and club visits.

With the school holidays coming up very soon we will see another group of potential Bloods players come to City Mazda Stadium for the under 13’s, 14’s and 15’s EDP.

The 2017 under 18’s squad has a number of Riverland players wanting to develop their football further. We spoke to 3 Riverland based boys on Bloods radio.
