2017 Signings And Recruits

Former Eagle Nathan Batley will join the Bloods for season 2017.

The 180cm Midfielder left the Woodville-West Torrens Football at the end of the 2016 season to seek further opportunity at another club.

Batley combines explosive outside run with an accurate kick and clean hands, and will be a great addition to our engine-room in 2017!

2015 Premiership duo Mason Middleton and Taite Silverlock have commited to the club for 2017.

Big-man Mason Middleton had a breakout 2016, taking out the Bill Downs Memorial Award for most improved, the Keith Reynolds Memorial Trophy and finishing in our Best on Ground a staggering eight times throughout the season.

Whether in defence or up forward, Mason’s imposing frame and contested marking abilities made a massive impact in 2016, and we can’t wait to see him develop further in 2017.

Taite “the Human Helipcopter” Silverlock has also commited to the Bloods for another season. The previous Essendon Rookie came up through our junior ranks and has always been a solid contributor to the side.

The West Adelaide Football Club would like to welcome Zac Bates back to the club for season 2017.

Zac has spent the last three seasons on Geelong’s Rookie List after being drafted in 2013.

The speedy small forward/midfielder played 19 VFL games over three seasons with the Cats, but unfortunately Bates was hampered by hamstring injuries during his time at Geelong.

The 21-year-old from Barmera-Monash came to the Bloods in 2010 through our Under 15’s program and went on to play in our Reserves and Under 18s before being drafted.

Bates is the second 2016 AFL-listed player to sign with the Bloods for 2017, after Tom Keough signed last week following a year with the Gold Coast Suns.

We welcome Zac back to the club, and look forward to seeing him in action in 2017!

2015 premiership player and 2016 Roger Luder’s medallist Aaron Fielke will be playing his 11th season at the Bloods having signed for 2017.

Aaron has played 145 games and kicked 140 goals over his career at West Adelaide and we look forward to seeing him have a great 2017 season!

The West Adelaide Football Club would like to welcome Tom Keough back to the club for season 2017.

Tom, who hails from Pinnaroo in our Mallee zone, played a key role in defence throughout our 2015 premiership year and has spent the last 12 months on the Gold Coast Suns’ rookie list.

Tom will wear the number 16 guernsey in 2017 in honour of his uncle, Leon O’Driscoll who played in our 1961 Premiership.

A natural leader and a very versatile player, we feel that Tom will combine very nicely with recently signed Jake Wilson to form a very strong key defensive unit in 2017 and beyond.

Young gun Brett Turner has commited to the Bloods for season 2017.

Originally from Flagstaff Hill, 20 year-old Brett made his league debut in 2016 after coming up through our junior ranks, and spent most of this season in the League side.

Switching between both defensive and offensive roles, Brett ended the 2016 season with a nice 2-goal haul against Central Districts, and will be priming for a big 2017!

Ex-Fitness Coach Joe Bottin, Nick Favretto and Jack Evans have all signed for the Bloods for season 2017.

Joe, who was formerly our Strength and Conditioning coach for the COE, played for Ironbank Cherry Gardens Football Club over the last two seasons in the Hills Football League. Joe will certainly add some depth to our ruck stocks in 2017.

Big-bodied midfielder Nick Favretto has committed to another season after solidifying his spot in our best 22 in 2016.

The 21 year old managed 15 League games in 2016, and a solid 20 disposals, seven marks and three rebound 50s in round 18 saw him nominated for the Powerade Star Search Award.

Jack Evans joins us for another year after a breakthrough 2016. The small defender not only made his League debut but also took out the Bob Lee Medal – Reserves Best & Fairest.

Ex-Redleg Lachlan Peter has signed with the Bloods for season 2017.

The 188cm, 23-year old left the Redlegs at the end of season 2016 to seek further opportunity at another club.

After making his League debut in 2015, the athletic key-forward unfortunately faced a massive set back after breaking his wrist early in season 2016.

The injury saw him miss nearly half of the season, but within a few weeks of returning through the Reserves side, Lachlan had picked up several 3 and 4 goal hauls.

Highly rated for his marking ability, speed and endurance; Lachlan will be a huge asset to our squad in 2017! #runwiththepack

The West Adelaide Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Jake Wilson for the next 2 years.

Jake, originally from Portland, moved to Melbourne as a 17 year old and spent two years with VFL team Williamstown before moving to Werribee where he has been a standout key defender, earning VFL team of the year honours.

Jake, 24 years old, 194cm and 93kg, was one of Victoria’s very best players in the state game played at Adelaide Oval against South Australia earlier this year.

We are confident that Jake will add experience, leadership and a great deal of know how to our defensive structure. Jake is a plumber by trade and we welcome him and his partner Maddie to our club.

2015 Premiership Player and Roger Luders Award winner Shannon Green has signed on for 2017!

Greeny managed 14 games in 2016, and a lot of the time opted for a more defensive role, reminiscent of his time under Andy Collins.

His move from defence into the forward line in late 2014 saw him stay there throughout our 2015 Premiership season, where he booted 46 goals and went on to receive the Roger Luders Award for most goals kicked.

Green brings 117 games worth of experience to our 2017 squad, and will be a welcome addition down either end of the ground!

Daniel Caire has put any talk of him retiring at the end of season 2016 to rest after signing on for 2017!

The SANFL and West Adelaide Life Member will look to add to his 200-game tally next year, after finishing 9th in our 2016 Best and Fairest count.

Daniel’s aggressive style of footy and enduring leadership will be a great asset to our squad in 2017!

2016 Neil Kerley Medallist Chris Schmidt has signed on for season 2017.

After a stellar year – averaging 28 disposals, 10 contested possessions, 4 tackles and 3 rebound 50’s across 15 games, our 2016 captain has signed on for another season with the Bloods.

Schmidt took out our 2016 Neil Kerley Medal (League Best & Fairest) by an impressive 28 votes, even though he missed our last three games of the season due to injury.

Chris is a vital cog in our engine room, and we can’t wait to see him in action again in 2017!

The last few weeks have seen a number of players sign on for season 2017.

Headlining these signings is the versatile Errin Wasley-Black, big man Daniel Webb, as well as young duo Hugh Haysman and Chris Burgess.

Other players recently sign on for 2017 include:

  • Tyler McPherson
  • Chol Majok
  • Dylan Male
  • Lachlan Cameron
  • Josh Stevens
  • Graeme Hampton
  • Tom Pillion
  • Jonty Inglis
  • Jaydn Brind
  • Lachlan Evans
  • Conor Noonan
  • Myles Crump

After missing the majority of the 2016 season due to injury, 2015 Neil Kerley medallist Jason Porplyzia has signed on for 2017.

After being one of our most solid contributors for the season and taking out our Best & Fairest in 2015 (his first year back at the Bloods), Porps unfortunately only managed 5-games early-on in 2016 after a knee injury ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

The hardened onballer will be a huge asset to the squad in 2017, and we can’t wait to see a fully-fit Porps firing out on the field again!

Brothers Mark and John Noble have signed on with the Bloods for 2017 despite talk of the duo joining their father David Noble in Queensland, after he was appointed as the Brisbane Lions General Manager of Football.

The brothers both had a taste of senior football this year primarily in our Development Squad. John however played six League matches including his debut against Sturt in Round 4.

Riverland product Kenny Karpany will also join the Noble brothers next year, after another solid season with the club.

Another young gun to mainly feature in the Development Squad this season, Kenny made his League debut against North Adelaide in Round 12, which in turn became our first win of the season.

If you saw any of these boys play in 2016, you’ll be just as excited as us to watch their development heading into next season and beyond!

Jack Agostino, Chris Burgess, Josh Holliday and Dustin Head have all signed on for 2017.

Young Bloods Jack Agostino (Defender/Midfielder), Chris Burgess (Defender) and Josh Holliday (Forward) have all committed to 2017 and are welcome additions to our squad as they continue to develop.

After a footy career riddled with injury, Dustin Head has decided to persevere for another year. A number of injuries have set back Dustin over recent seasons, but we wish him all the best and hope that he can perform to his full potential in 2017.

2015 premiership defender Brad Helbig has signed on for 2017!

Originally from Waikerie, Brad came up through our junior ranks before being drafted to the Richmond Football Club in 2010. He spent four seasons (16 games) with Tigers, before returning to the Bloods in 2015.

The fast-running backman unfortunately had a season plagued with injuries and managed only 3 league games in 2016.

With a great mix of contested physicality and outsided speed, we hope to see him return to his premiership form in 2017!

2015 premiership defender Logan Hill has signed on for 2017.

The tough, speedy defender stood tall all year in 2016, never giving up on a contest even when the margin was well against us.

Logan’s determination, leadership and sheer talent has been a great addition to our backline since coming to the Bloods in 2008, and we look forward to seeing him in action again in 2017!

Schiller and Watchman Commit to 2017

On-baller Josh Schiller and key position player Jesse Watchman will be joining the Bloods for season 2017.

Josh Schiller has signed on for next year after yet another consistent season in 2016.

Making his league debut in 2013 after coming up through our junior ranks, Schiller has become one of our most reliable midfielders, and was named as one of our best players in our 2015 Grand Final victory.

Key position player Jesse Watchman also returns to the Bloods after spending a season with the Blackwood Football Club.

Jesse also came up through our junior ranks, and will be a great asset to our talls department in 2017.

Kaine Commits to 2017

Reliable and courageous midfielder Kaine Stevens today signed on for season 2017.

Originally from Queanbeyan, Kaine had a breakout year in 2015, where he was instrumental in our finals success and received the Best Player in the Finals award.

2016 has been no different, with Kaine giving a solid contribution each week through the midfield, averaging 25 disposals, 6 clearances and also hitting the scoreboard in most games.

We look forward to seeing Kaine in action again next year! #runwiththepack
