Players Re-Sign and Coaching Appointments

Two Premiership players have signed on with the Bloods for the 2016 season, and three new coaching appointments have been made.

The West Adelaide Football Club would like to announce the re-signing of two of our premiership players for 2016.


Kaine Stevens

Player of the finals, Kaine Stevens, will continue his career with the Bloods. Originally from Queanbeyan, Kaine had an outstanding 2015 in the midfield, highlighted by his great performances in the finals.

We look forward to seeing Kaine run out next season.

Jason Porplyzia

2015 Best and Fairest winner Jason Porplyzia has also signed on for 2016.

Jason had an outstanding season on his return to the club and has provided great leadership, both on and off the field. Jason will also work an extra day each week with us, co-ordinating the Centre of Excellence program and being involved in our player development area.

It is great news to have Jason continue to run around in Bloods’ colours.

In other player news, Richard Newell and the West Adelaide Football Club have agreed that there may be more opportunities for his football future at another club. We thank Richard for his efforts over the past 2 years and wish him all the best for the future.



Coaching Appointments

The West Adelaide Football Club is pleased to announce the following coaching appointments.


Brett Leonard has been appointed as the defensive coach in the senior program.

Brett has been an assistant coach in our under 18 program for the past two years, along with coaching our under 17 side in the youth championships.

Brett has previously coached PHOS Camden B Grade Football Side to a premiership, been an assistant at PHOS Camden along with being the senior coach at Lockleys Football Club.

As a player, Brett represented the North Launceston Football Club in the Tasmanian Statewide League.


Terry Hutton has been appointed under 18 Centre of Excellence coach for season 2016.

Terry’s previous appointments include:

  • Under 18 Centre of Excellence Coach with WWTFC
  • Reserves coach SAFC
  • League Forward coach SAFC
  • Under 16 Centre of Excellence Coach at Sturt Football Club

Naomi Maidment has been appointed under 16 Centre of Excellence Coach.

Naomi has recently achieved her level 2 coaching accreditation and has been involved at West Adelaide in the:

  • Under 13/15 Elite Development Program
  • Under 18 Women’s Football Coach
  • Senior Women’s Head Coach
  • Head Coach of 2015 U15 metropolitan squad
  • Under 16 Centre of Excellence Assistant Coach (Midfield/Forward)

Naomi will be assisted by former players Chris Chubb as an assistant coach and James Ezard as runner.
