With pre-season training about to begin, the West Adelaide Football Club would like to announce some recent coaching appointments.
Senior Coach Mark Mickan will have the following people alongside him for the 2015 Season;
Jack Horan, who was an Coaches Assistant in 2014 will be joining us for another season in the same position. Jack who brings coaching experience from Sacred Heart Old Collegians has also held coaching positions at Glenelg.
Bevan Rowe, who had worked at West Adelaide in 2011, has been appointed as a Game Day Line Coach and also as a Development Coach. With great success with our juniors this season we are looking to help develop these lads into taking the next step.
Mark Beech will also join us as an assistant coach, bringing with him a great knowledge and understanding of the game. A famous name here at West Adelaide, Mark Beech played league football here at West Adelaide and brings a passion for the Bloods, with his expertise.
Lee Harradine, current Board Member and 2014 Team Manager will also be renewing his role as Team Manager.
Reserves Coach Shane Pill, who is returning for another season, did a great job during the 2014 Season getting a number of young players to step up into league football. He will be joined by;
Craig Johncock, a PE teacher from St Johns grammar school, will be coming to the Bloods as a Coaches Assistant. Craig has previously worked in our EDP programs and recently received the ACHPER PE teacher of the year.
Matt Bell who has previously coached at Nairne Bremner in the Hills competition, will also assist Shane, after being recommended to the club from past player Tony Fielke.
Ted Kerley will again take the position of Reserves Team Manager.
The Centre of Excellence Under 18 side will again be led by Coach Jarrod Meers with his assistants Lee Whitehorn, Brett Leonard and Glen Little, and Team Manager Fabian Muller. After an amazing job taking the 2014 Maccas Cup Premiership, we look for more talented players coming through.
As announced last week Jason Fairall will be the under 16’s coach.
Two Assistants have been appointed to support Jason;
Dale Woodhart has coaching experience at Port District and has been part of the development program at Port Adelaide. He previously played at Gepps Cross, Para Hills and Athelstone and has a great understanding of developing players and helping them make the next step.
WAFC Women’s side Coach Naomi Maidment, has also been appointed as an under 16 Assistant Coach. It is not often you have somebody in your club who has coached a senior team, an under 16 side and been involved in the under 13 EDP. Along with that played state football and coached state junior sides along with being accepted to complete their Level 2 in 2015.
We believe that Naomi may be the first female appointed to this level at any SANFL club. She has a great understanding of the game and will be a great asset to have as part of our under 16 program.
We are still looking for an Under 16 Team Manager, anyone who may be interested can contact Andrew Marks at the Club.
